POSITANO
Positano is located in a pictoreque and protective bay. The town used to be on fishing village. Its cube-shaped white mediterranean houses with their flat roofs recall the time of the Saracens who landed here. Several lookout towers were built in that period along the coast.
In 1950 painters and writers come here and enchanted by the magical atmosphere of the town they become to built villas.
The town is frequented by foreigners both in winter and in summer. Positano fashion is famous for its design in all over the world.

Attractions
The church of St. Maria Assunta near the beach is romanesque and was built in 1200. It holds a precious Sacred Treasure, the circumcision painting by Santafede of the XV century. On the main altar it possible to see the Byzantine icon of “Black Madonna with Child”.
As the legend tells the icon come here by sea during a storm. Also the statue of the Madonna Assumption kept here and the bust-shrine of St. Vito, the patron saint of the town, a precious workmanship of neapolitan goldsmith work.

Such is the beauty of this little corner of paradise that Italians humorously say: ‘The day an inhabitant of Amalfi goes to heaven will be just like any other!’ Grotta Smeraldo: If you desire, we will take you to explore the nearby Emerald Cave (’Grotta dello Smeraldo’), a marine cave whose luminous green waters were discovered by a local fisherman in 1932. This dark stalactite-filled grotto offers a magical contrast with the emerald waters below. During the Christmas season, local scuba divers have the tradition of placing a white ceramic Nativity set along the cave’s floor. Positano: Afterward we will head toward the charming fishing village of Positano, now a favorite destination for painters, novelists, musicians and all artists alike. The town’s narrow borgo is one the oldest Medieval settlements along the Amalfi Coast. However the town’s history dates far back to Roman times, as one can witness from the ruins of a 2nd century villa owned by the wealthy Posides Spado, after whom the town is now named. Positano has never lost its charm over the centuries. Countless testimonies can be seen in the numerous famous paintings of the town’s terraced, pastel-colored homes and sea below as well the various romantic ballads written by inspired poets around the world.
